Why Mommas Need Their Mommas

Happy February! If it weren't for the fun of Valentine's Day, this time of year would be a whole lot of "is it spring yet?!" I feel like it's too early in the month to use Valentine's Day as something I'm thankful for but it's probably safe to say I'll be thankful for that this whole month.
Aside from Valentine fun, there is really one major thing we are thankful for around here this past week and that is grandparents. Kade is so blessed to have two sets of fun grandparents who love him like CRAZY. It's hard living away from family [they are all in IL/WI] but these grandparents are committed to being a part of his life thanks to daily/weekly FaceTime dates, letting us stay with them whenever we make it back in town, and making trips out here to MN whenever they can.
Kade's grammy [my mom] had a birthday this past Wednesday [the 1st] and to celebrate, Kyle and I bought her a plane ticket to come out and see us for a few days. She flew out on Monday and stayed until this afternoon [Thursday]. Everything I know about being a good mom I learned from her. Now I get to watch her be a grandparent and rock that gig just as hard. Kade made sure that she left with bruised knees from crawling around and sore cheeks from all the smiles. He loves playing with his grammy, and I'll admit, it was kind of nice feeling like I had a few days off of motherhood. I don't think I fed the kid a single meal and I hardly changed any diapers with her around. Grandparents are good like that, ya know? We are SO thankful for all of Kade's grandparents and the love that they show our baby boy. We miss you already, grammy!
Here are a few other things I'm thankful for this week:
1. Home Goods
This is one of those happy little places that I like to go just to wander. I usually go there with something in mind that I'm looking for and then forget what it is the minute I step foot in the door. I think this last time I was looking for fireplace mantle décor and all the sudden I was looking at new laundry baskets. Who knew it was even possible for a store to make laundry baskets seem fun? Nice work, Home Goods. Nice work. Did I buy a new laundry basket, you ask? No. Did I buy anything for our fireplace mantle? No. Did I buy a new place for my spoons to rest as I cook? Yes.
I also bought some new kitchen hand towels and a new "utensils" jar. And I used a gift card from my generous mother-in-law AND I still have money left over on it... which means I get to go back and look for mantle décor again sometime. :) So much winning.
2. IKEA drawer organizers
Having my mom here allowed for me to do things that I am not normally able to do such as, enjoy my meals, NOT change a poopy diaper, and re-organize/clean out Kade's dresser and closet. His bedroom is not the best place for me to just set him down to play right now. There are a few things that he makes a bee-line for almost immediately and they are the few things in his room that are not quite "baby-proof." I know- his room of all places should probably be baby-proofed but he is really only ever in there for sleeping- unless of course I want to actually get something done in there and in that case it just doesn't happen. Unless Grammy is visiting. ;) She entertained him one morning while I spent some much needed time cleaning out some of the clothes that no longer fit him and re-organizing the drawers so that they made more sense. We bought these IKEA drawer organizers when I was pregnant and nesting real hard but as I was rearranging and re-organizing, I fell in love with them all over again. They come in a set of 6 with different shapes and sizes. They are GREAT for organizing nursery drawers and I am so glad we have them. Here is a peek at the finished product.
I'm always thankful for sunlight but I'm especially thankful for sunlight on cold winter days when my son discovers shadows.
That's all for this week. Thanks for reading! XO
