Tales of a 10-Month-Old
10 months ago today was the day we met our very first [and only, so far] baby boy, Kade Parker. Each month we have gotten to know more and more of who he is and we continue to realize yes, it is possible to love him more than we did the day before. This age especially hits home for us because this is the age that our nephew, Parker, was when Jesus called him home. We think of him and miss him every day, but will be thinking of him a little bit more during this month of Kade's life.
So, this kid's personality. It's big. He is funny and I think he already knows it [oh boy]. He crawls, fast. He gabs, a lot. And he climbs. He loves to stand and has started trying to take steps while holding mine or Kyle's hands. When he stands in our arms, he usually wants to jump- which is a great arm work-out. He has lots of vowel sounds attached to consonants d, b, m, g, w, y, c/k and sometimes a hint of s/th [at the end, not the beginning]. His voice is the sweetest sound we've ever heard and his "stories" are always making us laugh. He makes the cutest little raspberries and you can tell that he likes the way they tickle his tongue/lips.
He has two of the cutest little teeth on the bottom and has been showing signs of the teething monster all over again. We are expecting to see some more hopefully sooner rather than later. He has started to make a face where he scrunches his nose and squints his eyes and it makes me laugh out loud when I see it. He has started eating more finger foods and is doing so much better than when he first started. He's even [finally] figured out how to feed himself... though it is still a little bit of a work in progress. He loves cheerios, puffs, lil' crunchies [aka: healthy baby Cheetos], and banana and will tolerate eggs and black beans [jumped the gun in my previous post when I was thinking he loved them]. He also tried green bean puree this month and is 100% obsessed with yogurt.
At his 9 month appointment, he hadn't been gaining as much weight as we all had thought/hoped [likely due to his first major cold and teething] so we are supposed to head back soon to get that assessed. He has transitioned himself from 3 naps to 2 [most days] and had a couple 10 hour night sleeps. On average, he sleeps 2-3 hours during the day with naps and sleeps a 6-9 hour stretches at night, waking once to eat [which I know he doesn't NEED but I do it anyway] and going back to sleep. He likes to wake for the day around 5:30 AM which is SUPER fun but typically hangs out in his crib nicely until we are a little more ready for his energy [at LEAST 6 AM].
He sits and listens to us read him books really well but they aren't exactly his "toy" of choice anymore. He loves playing with things that aren't toys... you know, curtains, cracks in the floor, air vents, power cords, cabinet doors [which he opens and closes himself], etc. He also loves to SHAKE things that make noise [see the post about our Valentine Shakers here]. He likes to be chased and to follow us around- there have been plenty of evenings with all three of us just crawling around chasing each other in and out of different rooms in the house. Go ahead, picture it.
He loves his daddy when he needs a good laugh, and he loves his mommy when he needs a good snuggle. I think my all time favorite thing that he does right now is he grabs and plays with my thumb when I hold him on my hip. Those little things are the best things I hope I never forget.
Kade, you will never know how much we love you. Happy 10 months sweet boy.
